Glazed walnuts are great, but chili chai walnuts are even better!
Chili Chai Walnuts
1 c raw walnuts
1/4 c sugar
pinch of salt
2 chai tea bags, or 1 generous tsp chai tea leaves
1/4-1/2 tsp cayenne pepper*
In large pan, combine walnuts and sugar over medium high heat. Stir frequently until sugar starts to melt. Lower heat, and stir continuously for 10 minutes, or until sugar starts to fully melt and cover nuts. Add tea and cayenne pepper, and continue to cook for an additional minute or two, until nuts are well glazed and seasonings are well mixed in. Pour onto sheet of wax paper on a cooling rack, and spread out. Allow to cool. Store in tightly-sealed container.
*1/4 tsp cayenne will put you at a heat scale of about 3 out of 10

New booty from the bookstore me hearties:
I've been reading all Sandman, which is extreme fiction, for the past two weeks so I thought some non-fiction would make a nice contrast.
I'm still reading the seventh volume, Brief Lives, but I've also started on Fast Food Nation, which is proving to be an interesting read. I also hope it would forever make me stop eating those McDonald's fries.
There's nothing like knowing what the ingredients are to make me stop eating something...
Yeah, right.
Both books brought to you today by the letter F.
Since I won't be around on Halloween, here's my advanced contribution:
How to make your very own Flying Spaghetti Monster crown!
It's pretty appropriate in an odd Rorsach inkblot test/free association kind of way since I've been eating spaghetti for the past three days, I think it's only natural that his noodly appendage would come to mind.
Go forth and proselytize*, pastafarians!
And enjoy your Halloween!

Those roasted almonds with wasabi and Japanese soy sauce? They're incredibly good.
Yum.
Much later: I found a wasabi almonds recipe over at Recipezaar.
