Madeleine L’Engle was one of my favorite authors when I was in high school. I read the entire Austins series as well as the Wrinkle in Time books, and of course, Camilla. I think I read all her books and when I exhausted that, it was a long time before I found another author to love (enter Gabriel García Márquez).
She'll be sorely missed.
More of The Jets, yay! I posted about them a couple of weeks back and posted some fast songs. This week it's all about the ballads. Really excellent ones, if I may say so. These five would be my favorites, mostly because they've got *ahem* memories attached to them. Some of them, anyway. They're also great for singing in the bathroom.
Enjoy and have a nice weekend!
What television show stands the test of time?
It's a tie between The Wonder Years and My So-Called Life.
I don't know why, but when I try to think of songs that I associate with happy times when I was a kid, I always go back to Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine and The Jets. And—horror of horrors—Menudo (and my long-time, decades upon decades-old crush on Ricky Martin).
It has also left me with most of Gloria Estefan's ballads forever burned in my memory. I'm all karaoke-ready when it comes to that. However, I really like this one a lot. If I had to pick just one torch song, it would be I Still See Your Smile.
It's no small wonder that I turned out this way, you know, kind of twisted. Heh.
So here's my contribution to 80's Music Friday; it's the 80's Pop Extravaganza! And may the rhythm get to you, too.
Video: What was the first R-rated movie you saw (or were allowed to see)?

Edit: Now that I think of it, the first one might've been Pretty Woman (when I was about 10 or 11) or Belle Epoque (when I was 13 or 14). I'm not sure if they were really R-rated, though. I guess I started watching grown-up movies pretty early and it didn't occur to me until just now.

Have you ever secretly unwrapped a gift before the big day?

Naughty. It was a coloring book and a box of Crayolas that had 48 colors.
